In Autumn's Cocoon

In a well-known speech that Steven Spielberg gave (several years back) he spoke of the importance of listening to the whispers of life. The wisdom of intuition is rich but one must be open to hear these whispers because they can be so subtle and therefore often harder to hear and easily missed.

Recently, I was reflecting on the profound yet simple gift of touch to connect with others, heal, provide nourishing love and presence.

This is a slightly longer writing (perhaps calling for a quiet, undisturbed moment for the reader) but truly a miraculous experience highlighting the mystery of our continued bonds with those we love beyond the mere physical reality.

Spring is in the air, the cherry blossoms starting to bloom in the streets of Vancouver, BC and surrounding communities in the Lower Mainland where I live. When new vibrant life displays itself through nature one can’t help but have thoughts emerge of the prospect of new beginnings, despite the contrasting and rather heartbreaking challenges unfolding on the world stage.

Recently a friend and I were reflecting on how a garden is in many ways a microcosm of life.

The vast intricacy of life’s design continues to capture my sense of curiosity and wonder. Not only does the synergy and unending creativity in nature fascinate me, but also that of the human condition and its artistry. Coupled with our capacity for deep resilience.

One recent morning I awoke to the memory of a profound moment that took place while working on staff at the first hospice society I was involved in decades ago.

Recently I had the privilege to, once again, view the classic film “Dead Poet’s Society”. Its message tender and rich with life wisdom.

Remember to honour the life that has been gifted to you and the sheer privilege and opportunity that aging offers us all.
