About the Event

Stepping into the experience of dying can bring up a range of thoughts, feelings, and fears. What will the person look like? Will they be in pain, suffer? What should I say? Will I be able to handle this? I am afraid to be at the bedside alone, are there supports available? How will I react? What do I need to know to make this easier for myself and the one dying?

We see death on TV all the time, but in our medically advanced society rarely does it come into our homes the way it used to. Most people now die in medical facilities like hospitals or extended care. Instead of our elders passing down their wisdom on the subject, we are often thrown into the experience of death, dying and grief with little preparation. As a result, even adults do not always know how to best support their children, or each other, when a loved one has a terminal illness.

Shifting our perspective to view the experience in the same way as we prepare for a birth can change the way we view the dying process. Those facing death have similar vulnerabilities and needs to a newborn. Love, connection, and care are key as our loved one becomes frailer and more dependent.

Insight – At the end of this workshop you will have a greater understanding of the truth of what occurs during the dying process.  This will better prepare you for the images, sounds, and changes you will experience at the bedside. You will be invited to see the beauty amongst the challenges. Also made aware of different resources available depending on where you die along with appreciating the gift of hospice/palliative care.

  • This is a live online two-hour workshop and, out of respect for your privacy, will not be recorded.
  • You will be sent a Zoom link prior to the event.
  • Participants will receive a resource list for reading and added exploration after the workshop.
  • Barbara Morningstar will facilitate.
